Karen was born in Rockhampton QLD & grew up in Windsor NSW. She has lived in the Hunter for nearly 40 years & a full time Artist for 16 years.
Art is her passion, traditional, abstract & everything in between. She has won numerous awards over the years. Karen is a prolific painter exploring various techniques & mediums to open new creative possibilities. She will tell you she is addicted to Art.
Karen is known for her seascapes & skies, her ability to capture the fleeting moments of sunrise & sunset is truly remarkable, in each brushstroke she invites us to witness the interplay of light & shadow, the harmony of colours dancing across the canvas, at these magical times of day.
The diversity of mood, colour & atmosphere evoke a feeling of “being there”. These seascapes evolve from her enduring the elements on site, watching the waves roll in, capturing the feeling in a quick plien air sketch, while taking many photos to assist tackling the larger painting back in the Studio. She said she tries to paint not only what she sees but what she feels inside.
It is important to note that Karen has faced challenges along her journey. Recently the tragic loss of her husband. Amongst this loss Karen has continued to create, channelling her emotions into her work with even greater depth & intensity. I encourage you to not only admire the beauty of her art but also appreciate the journey & dedication of the Artist behind it all, who preserved through adversity to share her gift with us.
