For Jacqueline Butterworth, a love of painting and a sense of purpose have always gone hand in hand.
Having been painting since age 11, doing anything else just feels like swimming against the tide.
Jacqueline’s recent practice has focused on creating realistic oil paintings that possess a baroque look and feel, along with a touch of humour. Seemingly carefully constructed still lifes that have then been overtaken and picked through by various gatecrashing wildlife.
Sometimes serious, sometimes light-hearted but often both, Jacqueline loves to explore narrative in her paintings – depicting fleeting though pivotal moments that could be part of a larger story. While a fascination with allegory and symbolism imbues her paintings with layers of hidden meanings.
